Punnathurkotta was once the palace of a local ruler, but the palace grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed Anakkotta (Elephant Fort). The elephants are ritual offerings made by the devotees of Lord Guruvayoorappa.
Chettuva Backwater is located in between Engandiyur Panchayat and Kadappuram Panchayat. The place is blessed with mangrove islands, Chinese fishing nets, migratory birds, estuary and a fort. The backwaters start at Enamakkal lake and empties to Arabian sea.
